 Cancer Research

Global event brings leading renal cancer investigators to Chicago.

(PRWEB) October 20, 2004 -- Chicago will play host to an international group of 200 medical oncologists, urologists, and scientists at the International Kidney Cancer Symposium (IKCS), November 12, 13 and 14, 2004. The meeting is presented by the Kidney Cancer Association in joint sponsorship with the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Taussig Cancer Center, and is the third in a series of meetings for investigators with an interest in renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer). The forty faculty members for this CME-accredited event are the worlds leaders in the research, diagnosis and treatment of kidney cancer.

The IKCS provides a forum for the exchange of ideas that will help to frame future research and treatment of kidney cancer.

Each year, 32,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with kidney cancer. There are 12,000 deaths annually. The frontline treatment for kidney cancer is surgery. There is only one FDA approved therapy for the treatment of this disease. Kidney cancer has few symptoms, and is often not diagnosed until it has progressed to other organs.

The Kidney Cancer Association is a nonprofit voluntary health organization serving kidney cancer patients, their families, and physicians in the United States and 90 other countries.
